I like working with other scientists and medics towards the common goal of saving and improving lives. It is fun working on solving important healthcare problems with a great team!
What drives me is the curiosity of how things work and why. That Eureka moment when you understand the inner workings of something and everything clicks into place, is so satisfying.
I also really enjoy working with enthusiastic and smart people (often the students I teach or those in my lab) and chatting things through to solve problems. Sitting down and figuring out things that previously were you thought too challenging or impossible is very exciting. It has yet to happen to me yet, but one day I hope that my work will have some translational appeal and be able to help the lives of patients with brain disorders, that would be incredibly rewarding!
