My background is quite diverse. I have conducted research in three continents (Asia, North America and Europe) and four institutions. I used to dealing with steel structures. Modern structures have longer span and lighter weight. Occupants are often annoyed by the excessive vibration excited by other people walking around. My previous research dealt with this issue and aims to develop a design method to prevent this issue in design stage.
Then I found my passion on timber structures. I like timber because of its esthetics and sustainability. The public think timber material is easy to catch fire. It is not true for heavy timber elements. Imagine that you can not ignite a wood log for camp fire. I aim to advance the design of timber structures, make the timber more competitive in the current construction market dominated by steel and concrete, and finally reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in construction industry.

My Typical Day:
I get to work around 9 am. First, I will read the recent research papers I am interested in. Then, I will do modelling work and theoretical deduction. In the afternoon, I will analyze the data collected from my previous tests and write papers or report. Sometimes, I will prepare test plans to proof my hypothesis and carry out tests all day long.
