About Me:
Hi you all! I’m Jorge, from Ecuador: the middle of the world 🇪🇨 I’m pursuing a career in Immunology. I am moving recently to London after ending up my master at Barcelona. I am in love with pasta dishes, cycling, cooking (I feel in the lab while doing this), and enjoying sci-fi books/movies. I am totally convinced that science careers will allow us to improve our world!

Tregs establish a balance in the immune response of our natural warriors when fighting against any microbes (villains) or even when our natural warriors fail and attack our own cells (autoimmune diseases). Under this principle, Tregs can be used in different cell therapies to treat cancer or autoimmune diseases (including graft rejection after transplantation).

My Typical Day:
I usually wake up at 7 am. After checking out my email inbox and social media, I take a soft breakfast, always with coffee ☕. Then, I go to the lab to begin the planned experiments while telling jokes with my labmates during the morning. I have lunch with them (occasionally, one of us cooks to the rest something traditional from our countries). Finally, I analyze the results of the day with my supervisor and go back home at 5 pm.

What I'd do with the prize money:
My labmates and me are planning to write a comic regarding cell therapies in Immunology, to reach children and young people in order to let them know how essential immunology is in our lives and for the future, and of course to motivate them to study any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers.

During the end-of-year holidays, there is a traditional activity in my country. It consists of wearing women's clothes while dancing on the streets to ask the car drivers for money. I was so shy because I did not want to participate but my friends insisted on me. When I decided to dance with them, I asked the driver for money. My surprise was that the driver inside the car was my bachelor's thesis supervisor. I wanted to die right there xD
